We know you might have a few questions before starting your Pick-a-Path adventure. Here are some quick answers to help you understand how our interactive stories work, what to expect, and how your child can join the fun.

How it Works

Pick-A-Path Letters is an interactive, pick-your-own-adventure story delivered through the mail. Each series begins when your child receives the first letter introducing a new world, characters, or quest. At the end of every letter, there’s a choice to make — a decision that changes what happens next in the story!

Scan the included QR code and follow the link to make the choice of what the hero does next. Once the choice is made, the next letter in the story will be sent on the next mailing date. Each adventure includes 12 letters, arriving twice a month, so the story unfolds gradually — just like old-fashioned pen-pal magic with a modern twist that you help choose.

Each Pick-A-Path story includes 12 letters, mailed twice a month over 6 months.
Every letter features a beautifully illustrated, professionally written story printed on high-quality paper.
Each mailing also includes coloring pages, giving your young reader a chance to bring the story to life by coloring scenes from the adventure.
At the end of each letter, you’ll find a QR code that takes you to a website where you can make choices that shapes what happens next. Simply scan the QR code with your phone, and decide what the hero does next!

Each letter is addressed directly to your child by name, which is part of what makes it feel like real mail meant just for them!

Timing & Choices

Pick-A-Path Letters are mailed on the 5th and 20th of each month. To make sure your next letter is ready to go, please make your choice at least 3 days before the mailing date. Don’t worry, we will text you reminders until you have made a choice.

We totally understand — life gets busy! We’ll do our best to help you stay on track.
A text reminder will arrive a few days after we mail your letter, letting you know it’s time to start checking the mailbox.
If you haven’t made a choice yet, you’ll receive gentle reminders every couple of days.
And if the deadline passes without a choice, don’t worry — your story still continues! We’ll automatically follow the first available path for that letter so you never fall behind.

For current stories, Pick-A-Path Letters will be mailed on approximately the 5th and 20th of each month, depending on weekends and holidays.

When we launch a new story, we will begin to mail that story on the story release date.

Orders received at least three days before the next mailing date will be included in that shipment. Orders placed within three days of a mailing date will be sent with the following mailing.

Letters should arrive 1-5 business days from the mailing date.

Pricing & Commitment

Pricing depends on which option you choose and which story you’re ordering and can be found on each story page.

Choose the option that works best for you:

  • Monthly — pay as the letters arrive, spreading the cost over the length of the story.
  • One-time — pay for the full story up front in a single payment.
  • Gift bundle (one-time) — the best value of the three, designed for gift-givers who want to pay once and be done. Includes a book and digital extras (digital companion emails & the complete digital story)

It depends on the story.

Squire’s Quest is 12 letters delivered twice a month over 6 months.

The Boardwalk Detectives Club is 24 letters delivered twice a month over 12 months.

Pick-A-Path Letters are purchased by the story. You will not be automatically enrolled in another story.

Once your story wraps up, you decide when to start the next one!

Yes — if you’re on the monthly plan and need to cancel or pause, simply reach out and let us know.

Ages & Stories

All Pick-A-Path stories are created to be enjoyed by families together. Kids love not only the story, but the choice that comes at the end and the coloring pages.

While Pick-A-Path Letters are suggested for 5-11 year-olds, younger kids also love having the letters read aloud taking part in choosing what the hero does next!

Our very first adventure is Squire’s Quest, a medieval tale where young readers help a squire on his quest to become a knight.

In December 2026 we will begin sending The Boardwalk Detectives Club, a Nancy Drew type mystery!

And this is just the beginning! We’re already working on new adventures — from magical forests to holiday missions at the North Pole

Is there a story your kids would love to see come to life? Tell us your idea here.

Yes. Since we use a phone number to track each story’s choices, as long as each child’s story is tied to a different phone number (yours or another adult’s), they can each have their own. Prefer to keep it simple? We can also address a single story to more than one child, so siblings can share and decide together.

No. A parent or adult can scan the QR code or reply to the text on their own phone — kids never need their own device or account to take part in the story.

Pick-A-Path Letters ship on the 5th and 20th of every month, so we recommend keeping that in mind when purchasing for a special event. If the event is soon, that’s okay — download our printable gift card to have something to hand over right away while the first letter is on its way.

Shipping & Delivery

Due to the timing needed to ship and make choices before the next ship date, Pick-A-Path Letters currently ship only to continental U.S. addresses.

Sometimes mail can go astray — we know it happens! Unfortunately, once a letter leaves our hands, we don’t have control over where it goes or how long it takes to arrive.

If you haven’t received your letter seven days after we’ve notified you the letter has been sent, please contact us at hello@pickapathletters.com or reach out via the reminder texts. We’ll make sure you can still make your choice and keep your story on track!

Returns & Refunds

We want every adventure to feel magical — so your satisfaction means everything to us.

If for any reason you’re not delighted with your Pick-A-Path Letters experience, let us know within 30 days of receiving your first letter, and we’ll make it right. That may mean a replacement, a credit toward a new story, or a full refund — whatever helps you feel good about your adventure.

In short: love your letters, or let us know within 30 days — we’ll take care of you.
